[Women's Cross Country] 'Burg's Smith earns first NAIA AA award in XC; women finish 20th overall

The women's cross country program at Shawnee State received an outstanding performance from Brooke Smith at the 40th NAIA Cross Country Championships, as Smith, who ran an 18:21 in the meet to finish in 13th place overall, claimed her first NAIA All-American award as a cross country runner while Jessica Price and Jessica Cook carried over their strong times in the Mid-South Conference Championships to the national realm in a 20th-place showing for the Bears in the Women's 5K Meet that was held at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Fort Vancouver, Wash. on Friday.

Shawnee State, who obtained 518 points in all, edged Mount Mercy (Iowa) by one point for the 20th position overall. The Bears also finished just six points back of Carroll (Mont.) for 19th place in the final standings.
